Sometimes people see things and it is taken the wrong way. If something is misunderstood, then it is only right that the party or parties involved explain the situation. Shank Dorsey has requested to write a retraction for his essay and I have agreed to post it: Retraction for the Marcus Dillon EssayIt seems that there has been a lot of people responding to an Essay I wrote titled “Marcus Dillon’s Day of New High’s and Other People’s Low’s” that was posted on www.drewhanson.com. I am writing this because it seems that it has been taken out of context and that there has been a little bit of a misunderstanding. The Essay was not intended to be a shoot column on Adam Copeland (Edge) or in anyway meant to degrade him or embarrass anyone else. It isn’t even 100% accurate. It is half-truth and half made-up. The purpose for the essay was a project for an English class I am taking for college. I was asked to write a profile/observation essay and one of the topics was “An artist in my community”. I chose Marcus as my topic because one, he is a close friend of mine and two, I have always hated English and this class was no different, so I picked a topic that would keep me interested and that was wrestling. I free wrote about 4 pages of thoughts and sent them to my instructor. He liked the ideas and wanted me to zero in on something specific like an incident or a situation. The incident in the essay was the topic I zeroed in on and wrote a rough, rough draft. My instructor wanted me to add more dialogue to spice it up, so I started making up conversation between people that I thought would make an interesting essay. Honestly, I don’t even know what was said between Marcus and Edge. I just knew that Edge had offered Marcus some “Constructive Criticism” because Marcus had made a small error in his match and Edge was trying to tell him what he did wrong to help him out. That’s all I know about the “real” incident. The essay was posted on www.drewhanson.com not because of the content, but because of the structure of it. Drew is real good in writing and is currently writing a book as well. I sent him the essay to see of he could give me few pointers to help me write a well-structured essay. He said he was impressed with what I had written thus far and added a little advice on certain things. I finished the essay and sent him the final copy. He liked how I had developed the essay and how it told a story and he asked if he could post it on his site as a sort of a “pat on the back” for me. Because of my hatred for English and that my confidence in this class is almost zero, I was very flattered that drew had liked my essay and wanted to put it on his site, so I said yes. I ask Marcus’ for permission to post it but he didn’t read what it said. I guess he assumed that I wouldn’t post anything that would harm or embarrass him and I honestly didn’t think I was. That would be an Ooopps on my part. I just never thought it would generate as much attention as it did. Well, even though this is no time for comedy, I got an “A” on my essay but I guess you could say I got an “F” on friendship trust in this particular situation. I should have told him the content to see what he thought of it first. So for the record I would just like to state that the essay I wrote about Edge and Marcus was a “work” that was created be me strictly for English class and nothing further. There were no ill intentions and I apologize that it came off wrong or got misinterpreted. |
